Rotational Table Lamp

This project explores the intersection of material contrast, interaction design, and mechanical experimentation. It is a small, modern table lamp designed to work with a standard E27 light bulb and is currently in development.

The lamp consists of two distinct material components. The upper body is cast from epoxy resin and features a smooth, polished outer surface. Inside, carefully shaped convex structures refract and diffuse the light in a controlled and distinctive way, creating subtle variations in brightness and depth. The lower part of the lamp is made from concrete, providing visual and physical weight that contrasts with the translucency of the resin.

A defining feature of the lamp is its interaction concept. The light is switched on and off — and continuously dimmed — by rotating the upper part of the lamp. This motion-based control replaces conventional switches and creates a more intuitive and tactile user experience. The underlying mechanical system has been developed specifically for this project and is designed to give the impression that the upper element is floating above the concrete base.

This ongoing project serves as an exploration of custom mechanical solutions, material behavior, and alternative approaches to light control.
